Spring in the Douro Valley (March to May)

If you ask us honestly, this is the season we get the most excited about. September and early October is vindima, the grape harvest, when the terraces that make up the UNESCO World Heritage Alto Douro Wine Region turn shades of gold, copper and deep red almost overnight. The days are still warm but no longer punishing, evenings cool down enough for a jacket, and there is a real, working energy to the valley as pickers move through the vines. Some quintas even let couples time their wedding around the harvest itself, so guests can watch or take part in the picking. Winter and the Quiet Season (November to February)

Winter weddings in the Douro are rare, but not impossible, and they have their own quiet appeal. Mist settles over the river in the early morning, the valley empties of tourists, and indoor spaces at the historic quintas feel genuinely cozy rather than like a compromise. Prices tend to be their lowest of the year and venues are far easier to book on shorter notice. The tradeoff is that some quintas reduce their staff or close certain outdoor spaces for the season, so it takes a bit more coordination to make sure the venue you love is actually fully open and ready for your date.
